Siouxland District Health Department enforces several state and local laws.  This page provides information regarding some recent enforcement activities.

Iowa Food Code: SDHD enforces Iowa Food Code inspecting retail food establishments such as restaurants, grocery stores, convenience stores, coffee shops, concession stands, mobile food trucks, catering operations, vending machines, home bakeries, and temporary food stands.

All inspections require a report that includes violations noted.  View inspection reports and follow up reports when violations have occurred here.

Updated daily.

School vaccination audits:  SDHD enforces Iowa Administrative Rule 641.7-8 (2) by performing audits of each school in our jurisdiction to determine compliance with Iowa Code 139A which states that schools must keep require vaccinations and maintain accurate vaccination records for their students.

Infectious disease exclusions from work or daycare: SDHD enforces Iowa Code chapter 139A and Iowa Administrative Code 641 chapter 1 by issuing and enforcing orders of exclusion for people diagnosed with infectious diseases that work in occupations that have a high risk of infecting other people as well as daycare attendees.  People excluded from these activities must provide documentation that they are no longer infectious prior to returning to work or daycare.

Number of exclusion orders enforced from January 1, 2021 - August 31, 2021: 2

Confinement after dog bites: SDHD enforces Iowa Code 351.39 by ordering and enforcing the confinement of dogs that have bitten a person or otherwise are suspected of having rabies.  Public health action is for the specific purpose of rabies prevention and does not enforce city or county ordinances regarding viscious dogs, etc.  Each bite will involve a 10-day quarantine order either at home or a facility.  SDHD personnel releases the dog from confinement as long as it is healthy after 10 days.

See below for links to listed reports of bites that SDHD has responded to.  Breeds listed are as reported to our office by the owner of the dog.
