Join a team of Public Health Nurses providing health services and education to Woodbury County Residents that focus on the prevention or spread of diseases.  Daytime Monday through Friday hours (limited weekend hrs) at Siouxland District Health Department (SDHD) in Sioux City, IA. Public Health Nurses provide services to individuals, families and population groups.  Nursing actions are directed toward the goals of prevention, assessment, risk reduction and health status improvement for individuals, families and communities.

 Nursing activities include, but are not limited to, systematic analysis of health data, care plan development, health education and advocacy, coalition building and collaborating with community partners to promote the health of a population.  Public Health Nurses often collaborate and consult within multidisciplinary and multi-agency teams to achieve desirable outcomes for families and communities.  Public Health Nursing interventions occur at individual, family, community and system levels depending upon the responsibilities of the position and the issues involved

Siouxland District Health Department (SDHD) is the public health agency serving Woodbury County, Iowa. Our staff of 63 individuals is spread across the areas of family and community health, environmental health, health promotions, chronic disease prevention, acute disease investigation and emergency preparedness. Employees are also involved with internal committees providing input into our strategic plan, employee health and wellness initiatives and quality improvement and community engagement. SDHD provides a family friendly work environment that supports staff in establishing a good work/life balance.

Starting salary is offered in a range based on experience along with an excellent benefit package, including medical, dental and vision insurance, sick and vacation time, paid holidays, IPERS and deferred compensation plan.  Community opportunities for involvement exist, including community gardens, health/wellness activities and cultural events.

Benefits include Health Insurance with excellent coverage and an employee contribution of less than $200 per month. Single dental coverage is offered at no expense to the employee, with a family option available. Retirement benefit is through Iowa Public Employee Retirement System (IPERS). Employer contribution is 9.44% with employee contribution of 6.29%. SDHD also provides 10 paid holidays and 2 personal days per year. Starting vacation is accrued at a 2 week a year rate and sick leave is also available at about 8 hours per month. New SDHD employees are eligible for 5% annual raises with acceptable performance the first five years of their employment in addition to an annual cost of living increase.

Must have current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Iowa; Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited school of nursing, including coursework in public health/community health required; minimum of two years’ experience in general nursing is required.

Must have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and ability to obtain car insurance at agency-specified liability level.  Candidate for hire must pass background checks, a physical exam and drug screening test prior to employment.  In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, the County and Siouxland District Health Department will consider reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals with disabilities and encourages prospective employees and incumbents to discuss potential accommodations with the Employer
