Creating healthy inclusive communities
Siouxland District Health Department is committed to helping create healthy inclusive communities that are designed to include people with disabilities. We work to reduce barriers and increase accessibility through policy, system, and environmental changes. This is being done in conjunction with SIMPCO and other community partners through our All Abilities Coalition.
All Abilities Coalition
Community partners from across Siouxland gather every other month to work on initiatives that aim to create a healthy inclusive community. Initiatives focus on reducing barriers, increasing accessibility, and creating more physical activity opportunities for people with disabilities. For information or to join the coalition, email Angela Drent.
Sensory Friendly Events, Program and Businesses
The All Abilities Coalition is encouraging local businesses, programs, and event organizers to
create sensory-friendly and inclusive experiences for all individuals who may want to
access services provided. Doing so can be easy and low cost. You just have to know what you can do. The All Abilities Coalition has created a flyer that provides ideas that you can do. We are also providing a sensory-friendly go-kit that is available for check-out free of charge. If you would like more information on ways to make your spaces or events sensory-friendly or you would like to check out the sensory go-kit, email Angela Drent.
Onsite Accessibility Assessments
We provide a free onsite CHII assessment to businesses and organizations located in Woodbury County. This assessment is designed to help entities reduce barriers and improve accessibility so all individuals are able to access their buildings, services and programs. For more information, view the resources below or if you are interested in a free onsite assessment, please email Angela Drent.

Wheelchair Charging Stations
Wheelchair charging stations provide individuals who use motorized mobility devices such as electric wheelchairs or scooters and opportunity to get a full charge in a approximately 30 minutes. These devices provide opportunities for individuals to use amenities in our community without the fear of running out of battery or having to leave and return home before running out. SDHD has worked with several community partners to install wheelchair charging stations a various locations in Sioux City and rural Woodbury County. View the interactive map for details.
